My mother, Valerie Morrison, is one of the most giving and selfless people I know. She’s always been the first to help others—whether it’s raising money for school fundraisers, supporting vital organizations like The Penelope House, or opening her heart and home to rescue animals. Now, she’s the one who needs help, even though she would never ask for it herself. So, I am reaching out on her behalf.
Valerie is a survivor in every sense of the word. As a breast cancer survivor, she’s refused to let anything slow her down, staying active as an instructor and director of the Zuraka belly dance troupe, and walking her beloved dog, Mitzy, in the park. She’s lived her life embracing every moment and every second chance that has come her way.
But recently, life has dealt her an unimaginable blow. Her husband, Phillip Morrison, was hospitalized after battling a flesh-eating bacteria, only to be diagnosed shortly after with a heart condition, COPD, and bladder cancer. After a brave fight, Phillip tragically passed away this week, leaving Valerie not only to grieve the love of her life but also to face the burden of overwhelming medical bills and funeral expenses.
Phillip was a proud U.S. Military Veteran, and while the V.A. is offering some support, it isn’t enough to cover the full cost of his funeral. The estimated cost of the service and burial is $10,000, and without any life insurance policy, Valerie is left to shoulder this financial burden alone.
She shouldn’t have to do this by herself. Valerie has spent her life giving to others, and now it’s time for us to give back to her. I know times are hard for many, but if you are in a position to contribute, any amount—no matter how small—would be deeply appreciated. If a financial donation isn’t possible, simply sharing this page can help spread the word and bring comfort to a widow who deserves so much more than what life has thrown her way.
Valerie is not just a mother, grandmother, and animal lover—she’s a compassionate soul who has always been there for others. Now, she needs our help to say a proper goodbye to her husband, Phillip, and to find some peace during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your kindness, generosity, and support.
