Hi everyone, my partner hit his head in the pool and injured his spinal cords last year which made him to become quadriplegic.

So, our lives changed completely, because in addition to all the health consequences that this type of accident brings, Washington was unable to continue working and I also had to quit my job to take care of him.

Since then, we have been struggling hard to gain body movements and, consequently, provide ourselves a best life quality.

The problem is that in Brazil, when a person is unable to work for more than a month, they no longer receive a salary from the company where they were working and start receiving social security insurance from the government, which is much lower than their work income in most of the cases. So we are only receiving a minimum wage from this and the costs of the rehabilitation are very high because there are few clinics qualified for neurological physiotherapy here and the only public hospital that offers this type of treatment in the country has not yet made any beds available for him, besides the other expenses we have related to medicines, rent, food, among others.

In addition to the rehabilitation, we used our financial reserves to build our own adapted house, as the house we live in today and the houses in general for rent are not adapted, because they have steps and narrow doors and aisles, besides other problens that makes mobility in a wheelchair difficult.

So, in the midst of all this, we no longer have enough resources to pay for the treatment and complete the necessary adaptations to our home, and until we move into the adapted home, I won't be able to go back to work, due to Washington's lack of independence in a space without accessibility.
