I have learning disabilities and chronic mental health problems. Despite qualifying for a carer to support with my daily living, I have been on a waiting list since June 2021 and still have no help. My depression has worsened considerably this last year, and I have struggled to make contact with the job centre or attend appointments. As a result, I have been sanctioned. I usually receive about £700 a month for myself and my two children to live on. September, October, and November I have been paid £534.58, £539.49, and £561.49 respectively. I have really struggled to make ends meet on such little money, especially as both Christmas and one of my son's birthdays fall in the period that these payments cover. I somehow managed over the first two months, but I have now completely run out of money. I rang up my energy provider, but they don't actually offer any emergency payouts, just advances that would put us into debt with them. I have no money to fuel my car or my central heating. I have used the food bank twice over this period, and the jobcentre said they're only allowed to refer us 3 times in a year! I have direct debits bouncing from my bank account, and a really bad cold that I can't even afford to get cough medicine for. Thankfully I bought my children their main Christmas present each over the summer by pure chance, so I don't need to worry about their gifts, but I would very much like for them to be able to eat and live in a warm house between now and January!
