My name is Jane Horton, and I am the Gold Star Wife of SPC
Christopher Horton, who was killed on September 9, 2011 in Paktia,
Afghanistan. Since my husband's death, I have been to Afghanistan six
times- and my most recent trip was only two months ago. On many of
these trips I have met with many widows and orphans, and have fallen
in love with the beautiful people of Afghanistan.
As we watch this tragedy unfold before us, I have received
hundreds of messages from friends in Afghanistan that I have met along
the way. Many of them have had to flee the country because they are in
danger of being killed by the Taliban for many reasons - either they
are teachers, worked in the former government or helped the US
military, women going to school, or women in positions of authority
with which Taliban do not agree. They have left their entire lives-
their hopes, their dreams, their families to fly to a new country with
no job, little money, no home, nothing. Literally - just to get out.
They have absolutely nothing. It is the first time I have started a
Fundrazr, but I need help. This is overwhelming and I can’t do this by
myself. These families are reaching out to me to help them and I am
humbly pleading with you to help me support them during this time. I
will post updates, but I cannot tell you enough how awful and dire
this situation is.
