My mother-in-law Merlene Clarke from Belize is in need of mutual aid.  Merlene had a very bad accident which left her with a broken knee cap and needs help to pay for medical costs associated with knee cap surgery, aftercare and accommodation for 2 weeks in Belize City as she recovers close to hospital for check ups.  

With the help of a previous crowdfund we were able to raise the majority of costs but due to increased costs due to relocation of surgery and covid precaution measures the hospital is charging more. Additional costs include down payment (on top of surgery cost), local hotel room for 2 weeks plus incidentals as per doctors orders to be close for recovery and check ups, and to pay for caretaker while she recovers. If it wasn’t covid global pandemic I would be there personally to look after Merlene but right now it is impossible, so we need your help. 

Merlene Clarke is an esteemed advocate and organizer for the environment and food sovereignty in Belize, as well as a respected botanist and horticulturist. Her lifestyle and work entails her to be very active and mobile and even more of  a reason we need your help and contribute so she may start walking, hiking and continuing her work.
