Jason Roberts hasn't added a story.
About 5 years ago, Jorvic Salazar and his family discovered that his kidney functions were at about 40%, and they’ve been dropping ever since. Last January he learned his kidney functions had now fallen down to 18%. It was at this time that he and his doctors began planning dialysis treatments and a future kidney transplant. That summer of 2018, Jorvic began undergoing daily dialysis treatments once he finally received a successful port implant after 3 frustrating attempts.
In May of that year, Jorvic met with the UCLA transplant team. Once cleared as a transplant candidate, he began the process of finding a possible donor. Many of Jorvic’s friends and family came forward to be tested as possible donors. Once a donor candidate is identified as an early match, they then go through a lengthy screening process. The process rejects most candidates, but fortunately Chris Tremayne, who was among the first group to be screened, turned out to be a match.
Chris and Jorvic’s friendship had initially been formed over video games and Star Wars. Chris is a self-employed IT specialist who knew all along this process that not only would a successful screening mean that he’d be giving up an organ, but that the surgery itself would mean an interruption of his income.
After a lengthy screening process, it is through God's providence and the donor’s commitment to help (lots of testing, dieting, and trips to UCLA Medical) that Chris eventually made it through to become a formally approved donor in December of last year.
On February 20th, 2019, Jorvic and Chris will undergo kidney transplant surgery.
Due to his generous organ donation, Chris will be unable to work and generate income for about 6 weeks. Insurance will cover much of his medical costs but Chris works for himself and doesn’t have disability insurance.
Jorvic will be out of work after the surgery for 2-3 months. During which time he will receive partial pay due to disability. The Salazar’s will have additional out-of-pocket medical costs not covered through his insurance.
The Salazar’s are so grateful to Chris but can’t let him suffer financially. We are hoping that friends and family can help make up the difference. We are looking for $5,000 to cover Chris’s lost wages and $5,000 to cover Jorvic’s medical costs.
Thank you for considering a financial blessing for Chris and the Salazar family.
Your prayers are requested for both men and their families throughout this process.
