Heather Binnie hasn't added a story.
I first met Pelusa yesterday. I had heard about the cute, tiny 10
year old chihuahua with the fractured jaw and the herniated bladder.
No one is sure how she received these injuries. We think she was
either hit by a car or kicked by a human.
After I found out that she was in the Arizona Room (the vet's
clinic) Kat and I left to find her. I knocked on the door and was let
in. I didn't know her name so I simply asked where the dog "with
the broken jaw is kept".
Dr. Wilcox pointed her out to me as she was on the floor helping
another dog. I looked into the kennel where she pointed but I didn't
see Pelusa at first. I looked closer and saw only her little head. She
was sleeping in a cat enclosure. I opened the tiny kennel door, her
head sprung up and that's when I saw that she was curled up sleeping
with a kitten. A tiny kitten and Pelusa were giving each other comfort
during this dark and scary time in their lives.
I reached in to pet Pelusa and Dr. Wilcox said, "Be
careful! She's a leaper"! She was right. Pelusa, even after her
hernia and spay surgery, practically leaped into my arms. She had no
idea who I was but she was immediately trusting.
Kat put the leash on her as I was holding her and off we went.
We went outside to look for a nice grassy spot to take her
picture. I put her down but all she wanted to do was crawl back into
my arms. I couldn't entice her to sit because I couldn't feed her any
treats because her jaw is broken.
So because she wouldn't sit in the grass, I had Kat hold her.
She was a little more comfortable being held but she kept moving her
jaw like she was trying to straighten it out. It made a horrible
"click" noise and I felt so bad for her. She loved to be
petted and loved being held tight and close to someone.
The surgery that Pelusa needs is too extensive for PACC. A call was
made to HSSA to see if they could do the surgery and it's even too
much for them.
This tiny little life has so many years left in her. Tucson Cold
Wet Noses would like to save her and get her jaw fixed but they cannot
without the help and support from you. Santa Cruz Vet has quoted
Tucson Cold Wet Noses $700 for this surgery.
I know there have been a lot of fund raisers lately and that's why we're only asking for just a few dollars and to share this story. If you can do that it will help Pelusa get her surgery and find love with her own kitten, human or both. Thank you so much for your help and love.
