Costa Rica is a beautiful country nature wise, but still needs a lot of help with stray animals. The AHPPA (Asociacion Humanitraria Para la Proteccion de animales) was founded in 1991. We have a no-kill shelter, animal hospital, 3 veterinarians working full time. We have a sponsor area where older or not adoptable dogs can live out their life running free. Since 2010 the AHPPA started their outreach program. 3 times a week one of our vets goes to the rural areas where there is no vet available. He neuters, cures and vaccinate the animals who need our help. So now in stead of drawning the unwanted pups, the mother lives a healthy life and no unwanted litters are borne anymore. During the neuter projects the amount neutered runs between 40 and 50 each time he visits the sites. Our shelter in San Rafael de Heredia, where the other 2 vets are we neuter between 40 and 50 animals per day. The donations we need are to hire another vet to help more rural areas, the need is so big that 1 vet cannot cover the amount of work there is.
