Gavin's Fight Against Cancer!
Less than four weeks ago our beloved Gavin was diagnosed with bile duct cancer, an extremely rare and aggressive cancer. Among the few cases of this type of cancer, the majority of its victims are 65 or older ... Gavin is only 47!
He went into the doctor with stomach pains believing he had gall stones. What was supposed to be a simple MRI with a simple answer came back with something that blindsided and devastated our entire family.
This news was only made worse by the diagnosis that the cancer has already spread to his liver, and lymph nodes making it inoperable. This means that as of now, he has a very long, difficult road ahead of him and his entire family. He has chosen to fight, against all odds, to reduce the size of the tumors until hopefully, one day, they will be operable.
With a loving wife, four children, one grandchild, and one on the way, travel between MD Anderson in Texas, cancer treatment, and a journey with no end in sight, the expenses will be monumental. He has already been forced to quit the job he loved and has started aggressive chemotherapy. Unfortunately, he will not be receiving disability benefits for 9-12 months.
One piece of great news we’ve recently received is that his insurance will cover a large portion of the cost of his cancer treatment. However, we have still calculated that he and his family will need approximately $40,000 to get through the next 12 months. This will cover the family’s’ move from Grand Junction to Denver to receive better care, a portion of his lost wages, day to day expenses, and the balance of his medical expenditures. His wife, Connie, is still continuing to work full time as an RN to support their family while the rest of our entire family helps to care for Gavin.
Gavin is a son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, husband, dad, grandpa, and a nurse. He has spent his life aiding and supporting others. He is a hilarious individual with an uncanny sense of humor, positive attitude, and a calm and kind nature.
With love, donations, lots of prayer, and so many standing with him, we truly believe that he can beat the odds. Your support means the world, and could make all the difference in this fight!
Our goal is to lessen Gavin's burden and stress, so he can spend all of his energy and thoughts on beating this horrible disease ... Please help us, help him!
