This is Big D (known as Duke). His Mass is huge that of two golf balls. He came to me because his owners were neglectful and often times he would end up at the pound. They would retrieve him but usually after several days for they claimed they were teaching him a lesson. The shelter never made them make sure they were vetted either before returning them. (Being able to afford it was not the issue as they lived in a very expensive area of KY and home of several million dollars) and often his sibling several times a year. The dogs received no attention and love but for that of a neighbor that literally did it all for them. Feeding cleaning watering and time to pay attention to them. They were never vetted and never groomed never nails trimmed. They were never kept inside and well they were just back yard lawn debris. But the neighbor did care and lost so much sleep over them and when she learned that they were going to be dumped on a farm in the country to run lose with no fence to keep them safe and no one to watch for their needs she asked me to take them in.
I did. They came in very different than most dogs have they were actually very over weight and unhealthy for she feed them so much to make sure that they were getting food and cared so much she showered them in treats and well it added up.. They were deathly fat and with right food exercise and time they lost weight and started the journey to healthy life.
All this time are now great weight and learning some social skills that they knew nothing over. They are still like bulls in a china shop and can not be inside a home for they will tear a kennel/crate and or door out to return to the outside ( first hand knowledge ) they are still amazing dogs.
Big D has a golf ball size tumor in his mouth which is probably slightly larger than a golf ball at this point. It was discovered while doing a head to toe check over and grooming process..
We will be seeing specialist and undergoing surgery this week to remove and it will be sent to lab for medical diagnoses of this which is believed to be cancer at this point.
More common in large breed dogs and Big D is a Bloodhound and is Huge boy.
We have been estimated for $1100.00-$2000 for all the care that might be needed and not limited to
Sedation, Numerous xrays, possible scans, surgical removal, mass sent for testing, full path report, follow up care, medication, min of 2 days in hospital( because of the location and the size to keep an eye on any complications ).
It is believed that regardless the full diagnoses he has a great chance as long as we treat immediately. We would like to do so this week.
