In 2022 we moved into our home together in Glenpool, OK. We've lived in our town for the majority of our lives, and married here last December. The house we moved into had previously been owned by Jordin's parents since 2001. We put a lot of work into making the home our own, some of you saw it through various stages of scraping, texturing, and painting. Jordin has called this house home for a total of 17 years, which makes the loss we've endured that much heavier.
On Sunday July 27th, Madison woke up to find a fire in our garage. We were able to get ourselves and our cats out safely and we can't express how thankful we are to still have our little family whole and together, though the cats are staying with family until we find a more permanent housing situation.
The fire spread through the attic, burning the roof's framework and all of our sentimental holiday decor and leaving us with only one childhood tree ornament of Jordin's. It caused the ceiling and insolation to come down throughout the whole house, with the exception of one bedroom. We don't know at this point if we'll be able to renovate or if we'll have to rebuild.
We've lost all of our furniture, electronics, our kitchen things, and really just the majority of our household possessions. We were able to get our clothes, documents, important things to us like instruments and skates, some miscellaneous home things, books (unsure as of now what is salvageable of them), and pictures that we are working on sorting through to see if they can be salvaged. Almost everything we have left is either in the hotel room with us or in a 10x15 storage that's not even half full, and we're still sorting through these things to see what can really be cleaned and kept. We feel that we won't truly realize what possessions we've lost until we are able to be in a new home.
We've had so many reach out to ask what we need or how they can help and we are so appreciative. Currently, we have lodging covered by insurance but we are worried the lodging allotment will run out before we are able to get back to our home. Each day brings more info on what lies ahead and it's overwhelming to say the least. There is a limit on what insurance is going to provide and as we realize more and more about what this process will look like the thought of having a furnished home again has become a stressor. So we've decided to setup this fundraiser to help supplement what insurance will cover, lodging when insurance isn't covering it anymore, food while we're out of a home, and whatever unexpected expenses may arise. We are unsure what to put as a goal for this having never been through such a devasting experience but really anything will be of help. These funds are being put into a separate account and will be used for the long haul.
For transparency on the monetary help we've already received at the time this fundraiser was created:
$200 in DoorDash donations (about $100 left of this as of 7.30)
$640 from Red Cross (used to cover our hotel while we sorted insurance out)
about $500 in donations on other platforms (if you have donated to Jordin's Skate Wars funds those are now being used for our fire recovery)
