This summer, I will be taking a mission trip to Zambia, Africa! I am joining an organization called Africa Freedom Missions and a group of other young people around my age! We will be in Zambia for two weeks (July 1- July 14).
While on this mission trip, we will be serving in outreach and evangelism, working with street kids and orphans, and helping with youth projects at the local community schools. Most mission trips consist primarily of building houses, painting, etc. But this is different! One of the main reasons that AFM stood out to me is because they focus on evangelizing to the people in Africa! We will be working one on one with people, showing them the love of Jesus!
Some of you may remember that I had also begun to raise money to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua in my sophomore year. At the high school I attended, they offered mission trips to the students each year, and sophomore year, I planned to attend the Nicaragua trip. The same week (I think it may have even been a day or two before) that we were supposed to leave to go to Nicaragua is when covid happened, and we all went into quarantine. As many would think, this was quite devastating. But with that being said, everything happens for a reason! I am praying and believing that God has placed this trip in my path for a reason. I have always had an enormous desire to go on a mission trip, and I cannot wait to experience what God has in store!
I also wanted to make it apparent that this organization uses the funds you give them for your trip, and if for some reason you do not get to attend the trip you signed up for (for reasons such as covid, can’t raise enough money, etc.), then the money will go into an account for 18 months. You can use the money for another trip within their organization within that period. After 18 months, the money will all go towards the organization if I, for some reason, do not get to reschedule a trip. I wanted to make sure that people were aware of this up front because if I could not raise the money or got a covid, I would be using this for a trip within the next year and a half! I did not want it to seem as though I had just taken the money, and it went towards nothing because that is not the case! But I am expectant that if it’s in God's will, I won't run into any complications and will be able to attend!
