When a baby is whisked off to the NICU after being born, parents often feel they miss out on those first moments of bonding time. Even the days, weeks, or months after, parents feel powerlessness because they often cannot follow their natural instincts to care for and bond with their child. My husband and I know firsthand how this feels. Our son Landon was born at 7.5 weeks early and spent 16 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. To say we felt helpless was an understatement.

Studies show that reading to babies is not only great for them but it is also gives benefits to the parents as well. Parents who read books to their babies feel more closely bonded to their babies and gives parents a sense of control when they feel helpless. For the babies, hearing the parent’s voice can be soothing and can also lead to weight gain, earlier discharge dates, and future language development. In a busy hospital setting with medical equipment and nurses and doctors coming and going, reading a book can become a retreat for families.

My family would like to give back to the NICU that helped our Landon in the first few weeks of his life. We are forever grateful. Please considering donating to this book drive benefiting the NICU at Providence Hospital in Everett, WA. With Usborne Books and More matching ALL donations at 50% and with my donated commissions, I know we can reach our goal of $1000.00. If we reach this goal, $1670.00 worth of books will be donated and their library will be well stocked with amazing books!

Thank you so much for all your support!
