Graciela Phillips hasn't added a story.
March is here already, bringing
me another month closer to having to
run the refuge completely on my own.
My brother is my only help here,
and he is going back to Peru in May.
Even with two of us, the workload is
huge - I don’t know how I’m going to
manage when he leaves.
There are over 100+ dogs here
now, and that is way beyond full
capacity. Outside, the sections are
full with adults, and multiple puppy
play areas. Every room of the house
is filled with various packs, babies
quarantined from Parvo, crated dogs
on bed rest while being treated for
heart worm, etc. We have no space to
bring any more dogs, yet every day I
get asked to help this one, or that.
It breaks my heart to refuse them
all, but my body is more broken from
being overworked 24 hours a day
caring for so many here.
All these months with double the
manageable number of dogs is taking
a toll on my health. We get very
little sleep, and have no free time
to enjoy anything other than the
sweet potcake dogs filling every
square foot of Pawtcake Refuge.
My homeless need your help to
find adoptive families. We
absolutely have to get the number of
dogs here under control. I can’t
continue at this pace without
breaking - physically, emotionally
and financially...
The funds donated are gone before
they even arrive; overdue vet bills
assure that, along with the $800
each week for feeding everyone, and
$3000 in rent and utilities. There
are so many puppies that I lost to
Parvo, but their clinic stays are
not paid off yet. Louise spent two
weeks there, after having surgeries
for her horrible injuries, and her
bill will probably exceed $1000. My
gentle boy Lyle had to have chemo
for his venereal tumors, and sweet
Enriqueta had multiple surgeries and
chemo trying to battle her
aggressive cancer.
The regular care for vaccinations
and spay/neuters just adds to the
deficit. We truly appreciate your
support, and we desperately need it
now. Both in funding, and in helping
us get partner rescues that’ll take
some of my babies in to find their
future homes.
Please share our posts with your
friends and rescue contacts. Getting
these homeless into the states, and
on to the path towards a forever
family is something that you can be
proud to contribute to. Whether it’s
funds, or a referral to a new rescue
partner, we thank you for your contribution! |
