Hello!  My name is Megan and I hope you will take just a few minutes to read about my dream that I am working hard to make my reality.

I have been doing some soul searching to see if working an 8 to 5 job, day in and day out, is really what I am supposed to be doing.  My soul is screaming ‘NO’!  There is so much more to life than this and I need to make it happen so I can live the life I truly desire!  I don’t want to be on my deathbed regretting that I never truly lived.  I also know there are many of you out there feeling the same way so I’m hoping this will be of interest to you.

In my opinion, the American Dream is changing. As home prices continue to rise and salaries do not, there is a movement showing people are looking for a less expensive, less stressful ways to live.  People are working jobs they aren’t particularly happy with just to afford the ‘necessities’ of a large mortgage, high car payments, utilities costs, the latest fashions, etc.  People are waking up to the fact that you really only live once and questioning whether working just to pay bills is a good use of that one life.  I don’t think so and I know many would agree.

I have been researching tiny homes and bus conversions for months and decided that a bus conversion is the best option for me at this time.  I am going to buy an old school bus and convert it into an RV type living space for my dogs and I.  Buses are more structurally sound than an RV or camper and easier to move than a tiny home. Once I have this completed I will be driving to the southwest to enjoy the warmer, dryer climate, probably landing in New Mexico.  I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life and I no longer want to deal with the harsh winters. I plan to travel and explore this beautiful country a bit since I have never had this opportunity before.

My ultimate goal is to buy a piece of land and live in my bus.  I want to be as environmentally conscience as possible going off grid by utilizing solar panel technology, rain barrels, composting toilet and more off grid environmentally friendly ways of living.   

I will plant gardens that will feed me and keep me healthy.  Another goal is to produce enough fruits and vegetables to share with others who need them.  We all have qualities that we can offer others to make their lives better, and at the same time creating a better life for ourselves.  I will create a space of peace and tranquility where I can create a lifestyle of serenity and simplicity.  I will continue working my current job to save money for necessities, which thankfully, I can do remotely with internet access via a satellite dish, once I am on the road.

I am currently selling off all the items in my home that will not be coming on the bus with me.  I am a simple person with simple tastes, but things cost money and the start-up costs are still needed.  I know this process won’t happen overnight but receiving donations would make it happen that much quicker.  If I didn’t have my mortgage this would all happen faster, unfortunately I am stuck paying a mortgage until I have another living space.  

I will be documenting my journey in a blog or some other venue to show my progress, list the things that went well, things that I wish I had done differently, cost of necessary items, etc.  I feel there are so many people out there that would benefit from the tiny home concept such as Veterans, Retirees and people who just don’t want to be stuck with the humdrum 8-5 job existence any longer.  There has to be a better way of living other than working just to pay a mountain of bills we can hardly afford.  I believe tiny living offers the potential to actually enjoy life rather than trying to live the “American Dream” that most think they want or need to have.

Once I am successful with this life changing venture and I document my ‘how to’ ideas for others to learn from, I also plan to look into developing land for tiny home communities. As I mentioned before, so many people could benefit from tiny home living and live a more satisfying, peaceful life.
