My name is debbie and I'm a single mom of five children. Three years ago I made the decision to move from taos new Mexico to the town of penasco. At the time we were looking for a bigger house for all of us and the house we found in penasco seemed like the answer to our prayers. Three years later we now find ourselves stuck in a horrible situation that we desperately need to get out of. I'm on a fixed income and would love to return to work but live far from where the jobs are and don't have reliable transportation. I have not been able to save any money for deposit on a new home to rent as I barely get enough to cover my current rent. When I lived in taos I always worked and I would love to again.
Living in penasco has been difficult and unsafe for my children. My girls attend public school and are subjected to bullying on a daily basis. I would love to have the chance to try a different school setting for them. My 14 year old daughter has also been targeted by SEVERAL grown men in the community and when law enforcement was contacted nothing could be done. My 16 year old son that has aspergers syndrome is picked on by neighbors so badly that he cannot walk off of our property safely. He has not made one friend in the entire 3 years that we've lived here.
Recently my 74 year old mother came to live with us as well and she needs to be near proper medical facilities. The Heart of Taos association has assisted me several times in the past but my real goal is to return to work. Also I've contacted several other local agencies to apply for help to relocate back to taos but I was told by all of them that no funding was available. All we need is enough for one month of rent and security deposit. That's why I decided to start this campaign ..maybe there are people out there that would be willing to help ...I know many are not in a position to donate but if you can't donate please share my campaign to help me spread the word.
