Fatal birth defect….

Esme was found Saturday night all alone with no human and no mommy. Clinging to a shred of life, we rushed her to an emergency vet thinking her breathing issues were due to URI. We had no idea this precious soul was in for an epic battle.

And then the words No Hope….take her home and love her tumbled out of the vet’s mouth. Our hearts were crushed. Just a baby. We tried to rejoice knowing she would be loved and she would not die alone and cold in a ditch. But her eyes, wide and pleading for a chance haunted us and so we took her to another vet today. How could we not? How could we give up on someone so young? We had to exhaust all available means.

And so, now our regular vet is performing emergency surgery. There was no time to beg for funds as she was struggling to breath. No time to explain…we had to make a choice: what was her life worth? And we knew what our supporters would say. ….it was worth the moon and back.

We can’t always save the ones dealt cruel hands of fate, but we can save her with your help. She has defied the odds since she was born and we can help her to continue to defy those odds.

After her surgery, she will need to come back every 10-14 days after her recovery period (6 weeks). They will need to readjust her skeleton as needed and to monitor her progress. The cost of the surgery is $1,500 and we still owe for the emergency vet and follow-up care. We take the hard cases other rescues cannot take. We cannot do that without your help.
