If you have met Zen, you know just how sweet, loving, and insanely soft he is (it's like petting a bunny!). If you have ever met me, you know how much I love him.
He and I have had to take multiple trips to Kitty Urgent care in the past 3 weeks, due to some intense urinary straining. He was diagnosed with FLUD, Feline Lower Urinary Disease, and given some medicine. This helped temporarily, until Christmas, when he was showing signs of the same problem again. Another trip to urgent care, another round of meds, and he seemed OK for 24 hours. One day later, he continued to strain and meow, and he was terribly miserable. Long story short, back to urgent care, and after 2 hours of pep talks, steroids, and x-rays, he wound up in surgery because he was blocked.
In male cats, having a blocked urinary tract is lethal. Without treatment, he would die very quickly.
Zen is only 4.5 years old. To put it lightly, he is the best thing that has ever happend to me. I had no choice, but to consent to the surgery and the $2,000 bill, or watch my baby die.
He was taken into surgery immediately by the lovely vet tech, Karen. After surgery, the doctor let me know that we caught it in time, but he will need a special diet the rest of his life, and may need to be unblocked again due to his body having a build-up of "crystals" in his kidneys.
All I could do was think to myself, "Well, what am I supposed to do, now?!"
That's where you all come in. I hope I can find 200 people to donate $15 to help me pay for his needed surgery and vet bills the past few weeks. I wish I could just easily put that kind of money into his life, but my social worker salary does not allow for that much wiggle room. I call on people every day to help fund the services my clients get, so I am hoping I can do the same for myself and my furrbaby.
