Tobias Wolter - Team Canada World Youth Member
Dear Friends and Supporters,
My name is Tobias Wolter and I live with my family on our organic farm in Conquerall Mills, NS. I am very excited to be selected to wear my first Canadian singlet at the World Youth Championships this July in the Ukraine. I have been working very hard both in school and training this past year, and know this experience will be very challenging but very special in my road as an athlete.
One of the biggest challenges of this sport is the ongoing costs to train and compete as a young aspiring elite athlete. To date in 2013 my expenses have included a 1700.00 training camp (which gave me the opportunity to compete in the steeple which is not easy to find in Nova Scotia), 500.00 in athletic fees which include Provincial & Club Memberships, shoes and meet fees and now to be part of the Canadian Team I must pay $3200.00 plus two days of meals on route to the Ukraine, and 350.00 to be part of the Nova Scotia Legion Team which competes in early August in BC, where I will be in the hunt for another National gold medal. Then I will look to BC in November at an expense of 1500.00 to participate in the Canadian Cross Country Championships, in hope of being selected to the National Cross Country Team for 2014.
Total Expenses for 2013: 7250.00 (approximately)
I have been working as much as possible with my family on the farm, and continue to support myself with the incredible help of my parents, in this journey as a young athlete.
My athletic goals this year were to be selected to the World Youth Team, and to run for a medal at the 2013 Canadian Youth Nationals. Academically I have achieved high standings at my high school, Parkview Education Center, and I was incredibly honoured to receive the prestigious Rookie of the Year Award for the 2012-13 school year. I also try to keep myself involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible within the school community.
