Luce is the sweetest, kindest Italian Greyhound puppy you will ever meet.  He and his beautiful blue coat, and his wonderful temperament were imported all the way from the Ukraine.  Luce has a big future in front of him as a show dog and a sire to many future litters.  

Unfortunately, Luce's owner, Teresa (Terri) Porthan was at a dog show on November 6th (her 60th birthday!) and Luce was being watched in someone else's home when he went over the stair rails after a human he was trying to catch up and give kisses to.  He immediately snapped his right front leg when he landed, and was brought to the emergency vet to the tune of $1000 to stabilize his fracture.  He had surgery on November 10th to repair the break and is currently in follow up care doing well.  The cost of surgery at a non-profit vet with an income adjustment was $3400.  

Luce's care was put on care credit (for now) without the means to pay it back.  Terri, Luce's owner, owns and operates Noblewinds Hounds and has for many years, which typically operates at a close to zero profit situation (expenses = or > profit).  Terri is physically disabled and on a fixed income, and cannot obtain employment to help offset Luce's medical bills.  Luce's medical bills amount to a large chunk of Terri's annual living expenses.  

We are asking for financial assistance so Luce can continue getting the medical care he needs without negatively impacting his owner's day to day costs, and grow up to live a full and happy life with Terri and his doggy brothers and sisters.  Money raised in excess of vet bill amounts will be used to purchase medical insurance for Luce.
