Robert Blue is a climate activist and social justice advocate in Atlanta who has donated countless hours to non-violent direct action in the Atlanta area, and he needs our help.
Rob, as his friends know him, frequently puts his body on the line to make his voice heard. From his organizing with the Bernie Sanders campaign, to getting the word out about the impending danger of climate disruption, to, most recently, turning out to protest the police killing of the unarmed Minneapolis black man George Floyd, you can count that he will be there with his fists in the air. The Atlanta community is lucky to have someone so dedicated to fighting for the progressive agenda and against all forms of oppression.
It was no surprise that Rob turned out to protest with over a thousand other people in downtown Atlanta on the evening of May 29th. Through exercising his right to protest, he became one of the 370 people that were arrested that weekend, the great majority of which, including Rob, were for non-violent offenses.
At the time of the creation of this fund, he is still being held without bail at Fulton County Jail for non-violent charges. It has been over two weeks. Not only do his family and friends miss him dearly, but his living expenses are continuing to pile up while he is incarcerated. Because he is unable to work, he has been dismissed from his place of employment with no hope of returning, and cannot make money to pay his bills. He had just gotten himself a new job and back on of his feet after a stint of unemployment and was very happy to be back at work, but because of his prolonged detention, he will have to start again from scratch.
This fund was created by his friends, with his permission, in order to raise money to help Rob with his personal expenses. Someone who has given so much of themselves to important social and political efforts in our community should not have to face financial ruin for doing so. All money raised will be given directly to Robert Blue for use on things like living expenses, food, bills, to make calls from inside of the jail, and in making sure he is comfortable and well taken care of.
