We are a group of volunteers based in Thessaloniki , Greece. From Thessaloniki we go in Idomeni in order to help with cloths, food, and any other kind of supplies.

While we was helping there in August, we realized that many many people were bringing their children, and that the main difficulty for them was keep on bringing their children together with bags , luggage, and all the supplies they received in the distributions point, sometimes, for many kilometers by walking.

So we understood they needed a support in order to carry their children, and we thought it was important to give them baby carriers.

A baby carrier is a fabric support used as a pouch in order to bring a children leaving free hands and arms.

But the number of families and children was really big, and we hadn't enough pouchs to give because the commercial price is really high, even if we buy a big stock. Then we decide to start to produce them by ourselves.

We found a model very easy and fast to make and to explain, wich consists in just two slings sewed in one side, and from the beginning of September we could start to give babycarriers to the refugees in need. Receiveing back warm big thanksgiving smiles.

We realized that we were right, the baby carriers are really very useful, and can really change their travel!  And for us it's always a great satisfaction to be able to really help them, making their travel more confortable.

In the same time in Thessaloniki (and not only)  this iniziative start to catch on. We were able to set up a collaborative workshop, with woman of all the ages working toghether and sharing knowledge for a common cause.

Our action consists in find the fabric to make the pouch. Sometimes are recycled materials, sometimes we have to buy it, but usually the medium cost it's around 4 Euro for a pouch, considering only the fabric.

Then we organize the meetings in order to cut and sew, taking advantage of the help of woman whom have a professionality in sewing.

Then we organize the shipments for Idomeni and we go there by car.

There, we search for people who can need our supports, and after a quickly  explanation about how to use the babycarriers we donate the baby carriers to those people.

We calculate that  we can give out around 20 or 30 pouchs per day, that depends a lot from the flow, but the people in need are really a lot, and they really appreciate this significant present.

With the help of an Italian NGO we managed to buy a professional sewing machine and we can sew  a bigger number of pouchs in less time.

During those months we also develope new models of baby carriers. 

But this is not enough. We can sew as much as we want, but this is useless if we cannot go and donate to the people. It would be really great if we could go to Idomeni not only once per week but more times in a week, since the migratory flow is constant, even during winter, in so bad conditions.

With your help we can manage not only to produce more baby carriers, but also to have a stronger presence in the greek macedonian border.

We are working on an internet site too, and an explanation flyer to give to the migrants who receive our babycarriers, as a reference where to find more informations about how to wear them , and hopefully give us a feedback.

We are trying to relieve some of the weight they have to carry.

Please, imagine you having to carry your backpack ,lot of bags, blankets, and at the same time your children as well.

Just 5, 10 or 20 € can really make the difference.

With that money we can buy new fabrics, pay the oil to go in Idomeni, buy rings to make Ring-sling models, buy threads and tools needed to make baby carriers.
