Laurel Dykstra hasn't added a story.
Melanie and Erin and their sweet pup Dexter lost everything except
the clothes they were wearing in the Lytton fire. After recently
moving house they had applied for but not yet been approved for
renters' insurance. Their home was one of the first buildings to burn.
This disaster comes after a month of trauma which included the
deaths of family and community members, and the announcement of
hundreds of children buried on the grounds of residential
schools.
Erin has a traditional healing role in the Nlaka'pamux
community and Melanie is on medical leave, both give time, money and
care to their community every day.
Traditional medicines and
regalia cannot be replaced. They need to pay for kitchen and other
household items, furniture, clothing, housing, gas, and food,
eventually replace thousands of dollars worth of personal possessions,
and to pay for healing from this and compounded trauma.
This campaign has been put together at their request and with their knowledge. Let's respond to their courageous act of asking for help and give back to these incredible givers.
