My name is Stacey Champion and I'm a single mom and small business owner in Phoenix, AZ. No one is paying me to take on this large task. I'm doing it because I was raised by a single mom, and being a single mom myself, I personally know the struggles of living hand to mouth while trying to keep your power on. On January 3, 2018, I filed a complaint against APS along with a petition with 425 signatures asking for a rate hike rehearing. This rate increase has hurt people and families  who are now being forced to make the choice of paying an exorbitant electric bill or buying groceries. We are also in the bulls-eye of climate change, seeing record breaking temps every year as well as a rise in heat related deaths. Air conditioning in Arizona has become a basic human necessity to prevent death.

APS, an Arizona utility monopoly, spent MILLIONS of $$$ in Arizona elections supporting the candidates who are now regulating them. This has obviously worked out in their (APS') favor, given the lack of questions and concerns for the average APS customer being addressed by the Arizona Corporation Commission or RUCO, both of whom are supposed to be advocating for and protecting us customers. Apparently that's difficult when a company has given you millions of dollars. And while the CEO/Pres. makes $MILLIONS$ in salary every year, over one million Arizonans live below the Federal poverty guidelines, and 24% of Arizonan children are food insecure.

This legal fund will allow us to secure an attorney (which has proven to be difficult to this point given the number of firms either on retainer with APS/Pinnacle West Capital Corp. and/or those conflicted out for various reasons). In the words of Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
