Hello! I’m writing on behalf of my sister, Shelley Gray, a woman of incredible strength and resilience. As many of Shelley’s friends and family know, she has faced major health challenges in her past, including a diagnosis of Crohn’s disease in her early 20s, open heart surgery to remove a rare non-cancerous growth called a myxoma in 2008, and a breast cancer diagnosis in 2012. Despite these challenges, Shelley has remained cancer free for over 10 years!
After a decade as a cancer survivor, she thought that battle was behind her. Sadly, in February 2023 she received the news that she had been diagnosed with Cancer Unknown Primary (CUP) that had metastasized to her liver. This diagnosis has been incredibly challenging for her and her family, but Shelley is determined to beat this cancer just as she has done in the past.
My sister is one of the strongest women I know. Her determination to push through even the most insurmountable challenges is awe-inspiring. She has always been a person others could rely on, offering support and kindness through life’s ups and downs, but this time, however, Shelley needs your help.
As a mother, sister, aunt, Glam (grandmother), and friend, she has opened her heart and home countless times to those in need. Whether it was offering a kind word, a hug, a meal, or a place to stay, Shelley has always been there for others. Now, it is our turn to be there for her. So, please consider donating to support her on her journey back to health, and know that every contribution, no matter the size, will make a profound difference in her life.
While we all strive for independence and control over our lives, sometimes life asks us to have the courage to set aside our pride and allow others to step in and help where they can. Life’s greatest challenges are rarely faced alone – they often require the support of a community. So, we are reaching out to family, friends, and the larger community to ensure that Shelley’s focus can remain on healing.
Shelley has completed 27 radiation treatments and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. In addition to her Oncologist, she is working with two Naturopathic Doctors for Integrative cancer care. As most of you are aware, the Integrative care is an out-of-pocket expense and therefore not covered by government health care plans. In June, we held our first fundraiser and were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from family and friends. Together, we raised $6,000 to help Shelley on her journey back to health. We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported her during this challenging time. Your kindness and generosity have made a profound difference in her life. Those funds have provided cold caps used during chemotherapy, Vitamin C infusions, Supplements, and Naturopathic care.
Due to the growing costs of her treatment, we have created this fundraising page to help support Shelley in her fight against cancer. The initial funds we raised will be depleted on September 8th, which is just two weeks away! We’re reaching out to ask for your support in this challenging time. Currently, our family is facing a very challenging time as we navigate the next 6 months of Shelley’s treatment. The road ahead is uncertain, and we don’t know if treatment will need to continue beyond this period. Unfortunately, the side effects of her treatments have made it impossible for her to work, so we are also in need of funds to cover some of her basic living expenses. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for Shelley’s treatment and an additional $25,000 to help her with living expenses, bringing our total fundraising goal to $50,000. We know this is a huge goal! Without a clear understanding of the full cost of treatment, we didn’t reach high enough the first time around. So, this time we’re reaching for the stars! Any help you can provide is deeply appreciated and will make a world of difference to Shelley and her family. Our first milestone is $25,000 so she can continue her treatment in the coming weeks and months.
