Holly Irons hasn't added a story.
My name is Holly. I am a mid-20's happy go lucky chick who is looking at a new chapter in her life: Moving to a new city in order to have new adventures and experiences! I'm moving from Seattle, my home for the past 10-ish years into a house in North Portland. The household will include myself, my girlfriend, and 3 fantastic friends, along with 2 cats, a dog, and a couple of snakes. It's a gorgeous 4 bedroom with an extra room, 2.5 bath, with a wonderful backyard.
This is the first time I'm moving out and into a house and not in with someone who already lives in a house. I'm also moving 200 miles away from my location right now. So, super excited and scared!
Jamee, my girlfriend, is moving to a new city for self improvement. She's considering changing careers to gain new experience, and she's loving the concept of gaining knowledge and life points while in a new city. Derrek is wanting new opportunities and is looking for spontaniety. Elle is going to be gaining independence in this new house, as well as moving closer for education. The last room mate, X, is going to be moving to find self-truth and growth, along with a side serving of some sanity. I am the one moving the farthest, from South Seattle to Portland; Jamee and Derrek are moving from Tacoma to Portland, while Elle and X are moving from the Portland/Vancouver area.
My girlfriend and I have talked about living together for quite some time and being strong independent women who would still like our space, we figured we would live in a household with other folks, each getting a room, each able to be our weird selves with no judgements, and start fresh in a new city.
I was originally going to wait to move to Portland until the company I work for opened a branch in the area, which was projected to be Summer/Fall 2016, now Winter 2016/2017. However, my girlfriend and I saw this house, applied for it, and bit a bullet by choosing to move before my work. We're in love with this house. Probably not the best plan, but if I need to have a couple jobs in order to have new adventures until my work begins the process for the second branch, so be it. We get the keys for the house September 1st.
We will be needing help from friends, family, and loved ones on August 31st in Seattle/Tacoma/Vancouver with packing of the U-Haul, and September 1st in North Portland unpacking into the house. Can't help us with the actual move, but want to help in some way? That's where this campaign comes in. We understand that not everyone has the time to commit, the energy, the spoons, or the ability to be in Seattle or Portland to help. So, we are asking for you to help us make the house into a home.
The whole point of this campaign is to not pay for rent, but to pay for the additional things needed within the house to make it more livable. This is for food for the couple of weeks. This is for the initial Bed, Bath, and Beyond trip that we will most likely need to do because all 5 of us forgot to ask if anyone had a knife block, shower curtain, or toilet scrubber. This is for the over cost of the U-haul. This is for the ability to have organizers in the kitchen pantry, a dry erase board on the fridge, and a mail holder in the front room, that art print in the kitchen. This is for new pieces of plywood shelving on the shelves my uncle made, for the cat shelves, for the potential of a new cat tree for harmonious living of two feline friends. This is for a new bed, in case I remember everything but finding a blasted bed. This is for the ball pit in the downstairs area as a celebration for having a house!
This is simply to breathe easy and get comfortable in our living space. Jamee and I will be having to find new jobs, so any help to make us breathe a little easier during that time is greatly appreciated.
This cause may not seem important, but really, I am stressing about this move. 2-3 of us will have to be finding new jobs, and 2 people will be moving down a little sooner in order to get the ball rolling on finding a job, while I'll be working at my current job in Seattle for a few weeks after the move in order to have a nice solid final paycheck before spending a couple weeks myself trying to find a job in the Portland area. I am worried that a hiccup may cause us some undue and not needed stress. I've started cutting back on things, canceled events and plans I had made in order to save money until the move. Any little bit would help me breathe easy that everything will be alright.
I am setting the goal at $3,000, but any help is great appreciated. If you cannot contribute money, please share the campaign to others. That is the best thing anyone can possibly do. I know that this chapter will be a swell one!
