My name is Kanyon Walker, and I’m the founder of Subverted Entertainment, a Denver-based event production company dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences through high-fidelity audio and inclusive, safe spaces for all cultures. For over 17 years, I’ve worked in the entertainment and music industry, fueled by a passion for connecting people through sound and community. This journey has been a long, challenging one, and this year I’ve faced the most difficult obstacles yet—ones that now threaten not only my life’s work but my future.
This year has brought unimaginable trials. I’ve been the victim of multiple embezzlement cases, and I’ve experienced a series of heart attacks that ultimately led to emergency heart surgery. While I was in recovery, theft and mounting debts pushed me toward the edge of bankruptcy. The impacts of these hardships have left me homeless, fighting to keep Subverted Entertainment alive.
My commitment to community has always been my driving force. Over the years, I’ve dedicated countless hours to supporting the Burning Man community nationwide, fostering inclusivity and creativity through events. I’ve been actively involved in political activism, including supporting my city, Denver, during the George Floyd protests—a time of both collective struggle and hope for change. These experiences taught me resilience, which has been crucial as I’ve faced adversity before, including a severe back injury from a roller coaster accident at 21. But this year’s hardships have taken a toll like none I’ve faced before.
Subverted Entertainment, born in 2017, was the realization of a dream—creating transformative spaces where people from all walks of life could come together and experience high-quality, immersive audio. We’ve become a cornerstone of Denver’s underground music scene, known for our commitment to safety, inclusion, and elevating the sound system culture in America. Losing Subverted would be more than losing a business; it would be losing a community that means the world to me and so many others.
Today, I’m reaching out to ask for help in our fight for survival. With your support, I can begin to repair the damage this year has caused and rebuild both my life and Subverted Entertainment.
