Rent is due August 1st, and without help, my 2 cats and I will lose our apartment. I have no family and nowhere else to go. Because of a seizure disorder, I cannot drive and do not have a car to live in. Surrendering my cats to shelters could put them at serious risk.
Rikki, my sweet Siamese girl, will turn 20 on August 1st (God willing). She is mostly healthy and has been with me her entire life, but she's feral to all other humans, and has mild kidney insufficiency and asthma. At 20, with health issues and fear of strangers, her chances in a shelter would be extremely poor.
Benji, my tabby boy, turned 2 in June. He showed up traumatized on my patio in February 2025. All his claws had been cut far below the quick, causing terrible pain. He was taken from his mother too early and still doesn’t even know how to purr or hiss. He’s finally starting to feel safe with me, but not completely stable yet. Surrendering him to a shelter might be feasible, but could destroy the progress we have made.
Can you please help us?
Why $2,000? This covers August rent, electricity, phone/internet (so I can continue applying for jobs), basic food for me, cat food and litter. At least $200 will also be lost to platform processing fees, meaning I will not receive the full amount raised. (I have money left over from birthday gifts that I will use, but my electricity bill is much higher this month because of the heat!)
I took a 2-week seasonal job in April that paid May bills, but it caused me to lose Medicaid and SNAP/EBT (food stamps). Then, I discovered that I’m no longer eligible for Medicaid under the new rules and so I now have no health insurance! I have Crohn’s Disease, Celiac Disease, and Thyroid Disease. As a 61-year-old with these health challenges, becoming homeless would very quickly become life-threatening for me. I'm a domestic violence survivor and must stay safe at my age.
I’m actively searching for any kind of work, but I'm discovering that in my 60s, it's more difficult than most people realize.
If I don't pay rent by August 2nd, they will begin eviction proceedings, immediately!
