Out of Luck! Need a Buck!
Please Help Revive My Business After COVID.
Ed is a USMC Veteran and the owner of SalinaJunk.com, which he started in 2012. After working at a construction company for five years as the shop and safety manager, he was laid off. With no luck finding another job, Ed began researching starting a junk removal business and found that nobody was offering this service in his area. He hand-painted two signs, installed them as sideboards on his 1974 Dodge pickup, (see above photo ), and advertised get free appliance removal when customers liked his business on Facebook. "Get FREE Appliance Removal When You "Like Us" on Facebook" in less than a year, he had 1,400 plus Facebook Page "Likes" and sold the broken appliances straight to the iron and metal company.
Ed used the profits to fix up a small house he had bought, upgrade his truck, and purchase a rundown 3-unit apartment building, which the SalinaJunk crew renovated and sold. Ed and the SalinaJunk crew, do all the renovations to the buildings using as many materials as they can recycle from the junk removal service..
Ed opened a second-hand store but faced hardship when COVID-19 hit. His income has drastically declined, and he cannot get a bank loan or and covid bailout money to purchase another building, pickup, and trailer they desperately need because Ed's partner disappeared with the truck. Ed woke up his partner was gone and so was the truck. About 60 days later Ed found out his partner had gotten a job as a live-in-home healthcare worker in a city 100 miles away. Ed is selling items that were in inventory for the store that was put in storage when he lost the building he was in because the landlord died then 4 days later his landlord's wife died and the children sold the building and Ed had to be out in 30 days. Ed is using the money from sales of inventory items in storage to help supplement his Social Security. He does not qualify for any Federal assistance because he did not have 4 or more W2 employees. They only hired 1099 workers because they are temporary.
Top Priority
The top priority is to raise enough money to get maxed-out credit cards paid down and purchase a truck and trailer. Then he can work on the other goals of securing a building to live in and operate SalinaJunk.com out of and getting the second-hand store back in business. Ed has been getting calls every week from people and customers wanting to know if the store is open yet.
Building;
Ed is looking for a building to buy instead of rent to put the second-hand store See submitted pictures of a building he is looking into getting.
The building above is an old school he is looking at and is big enough to have a personal apartment as well as a new second-hand store on the ground floor. The building sits on almost 1/2 a city block so as soon as possible he intends to plant a large vegetable garden and offer fresh vegetables. Also, have a monthly or weekly flea market and rent space to other vendors as well.
It would be set up with solar panels with a bank of batteries to store energy and also have a whole house power generator backup system that would feed back to the electric company.
A positive impact on the environment.
