Locals and expats setting up a Rugby & Life Skills NGO to work with young people; focusing on promoting the values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship and fostering grassroots interest in the game.

We are a group of Burmese and expats working to develop the beautiful game of Rugby in Myanmar (Burma). After a successful pilot we are looking to expand the project to multiple sites across Yangon before rolling out (not away!) natiowide.

The pilot involved partnering with a monastic school and running weekly sessions with the children there. The kids really loved it and we saw positive changes in their behaviour over the course of just a couple of months.

The main challenges have been finding suitable spaces to play and having full-time people to grow the project. Due to apparent gaps in the Burmese public education system the project will evolve from just coaching rugby to running extra-curricular activities such as :

Music,
ICT, Fire safety, First aid, Reproductive Health & Crafts.

The money will be used to establish a full time project for 6 months from September. This will involve needs analysis for the Life Skills and Citizenship side of things; founding teams, developing local players & coaches, increasing participation and growing the game.
