Who
is organizing the campaign?
The Horváth family is organizing the campaign, as they want to stay together with their 6-year-old son Marlon during his battle with a serious illness and provide him with everything necessary on his journey to recovery.
Who will we help?
Hello,
My name is Marlon and I’m 6 years old.
Just a while ago, I was a completely normal, healthy little boy. I woke up in the morning, looking forward to breakfast, to seeing my friends at kindergarten, to playing with my little sister Melinka. Sometimes we laughed so hard, our cheeks would hurt.
And then… then everything changed. Out of nowhere…
I went with my mom and Melinka just to check my tummy, because it hurt a bit after eating. I thought it would pass. But it didn’t. That same day, the doctor told me I couldn’t eat or drink, and that night I wasn’t sleeping in my own bed. The next morning, I was taken by ambulance – and suddenly, I was in a hospital. A big one. In Bratislava.
It’s called the National Institute of Child’s Diseases. But I call it: “The big hospital with a view of the city.”
Since then, I’ve been living there. Not at home. Not in my bed, not with my toys.
Mom is with me all the time. She is my hero. And Dad? Dad takes care of Melinka, the animals, and the house… They visit me every day. We try to be together every moment we can. As a family.
They told me I have a disease with a long name – Burkitt’s lymphoma. I don’t really know what that means. I just know that I’m weaker now. That they put a little machine near my heart, from which tubes hang and give me medicine. That I sleep a lot, and sometimes I feel really bad. But Mom and Dad keep telling me that it will end one day. That I have to be strong.
So, I try.
I try to be strong for them. For Melinka. For the chance to go home again.
Why are we asking for your help?
It’s not easy at home right now.
Dad can’t go to work, so he’s not earning any money. He takes care of Melinka, the animals, the house… and every day he travels 140 km to be with us, just so we can be together for a while.
But even with all this, we still have our regular expenses: the mortgage, utilities, fuel, food (since Dad can’t cook), and little things that help me forget the pain – toys, games, cartoons.
Our home will need a lot of changes to make it safe for me to recover when I get better:
• We need to replace the carpets with floors.
• Paint the walls.
• The air must be clean, free of germs.
• We’ll need to cool the rooms, because this summer the sun will be my enemy.
• And many more changes to make it a truly safe home where I can live again.
Our only goal is simple – to be together
We are not asking for millions. We’re not asking for miracles.
We’re just asking for time, so we can live like this – next to Marlon – until he recovers. So we can function as a family, together, without worrying that tomorrow we won’t be able to fill the gas tank, buy medicine, or be by his side.
We ask for your help – every euro, every share, every prayer, every thought for our Marlon is like magic that moves us forward.
We believe that one day, we will say the most beautiful sentence:
“Marlon made it.”
With respect and gratitude,
The Horváth Family
What will the funds from this campaign be used for?
• Everyday travel to the hospital to be with Marlon (140 km daily).
• Covering the monthly household expenses (mortgage, utilities, food).
• Purchasing food in the form of meal plans during the hospitalization.
• Hygiene items and special equipment for Marlon during treatment.
• Toys, games, and activities to help him cope with the tough days.
• Any medications or supplements that are not covered by insurance.
• Home improvements for a safe return after treatment:
◦ Replacing carpets with washable floors.
◦ Painting rooms and cleaning the space of mold and bacteria.
◦ Purchasing an air purifier and air conditioning (since he will need to stay indoors during the summer).
◦ Purchasing time – so we can stay with our son and put work aside until he recovers.
