Our story begins with a setback that turned into light.
In 2025, our lives shifted suddenly when I suffered a debilitating stroke — the result of damage caused years earlier by the surgeries and radiation that saved me from throat cancer. My doctors explained that it wasn’t from lifestyle, but from the long-term effects of treatment — something that, eventually, was bound to happen.
Oddly, I see it now as a kind of blessing in disguise. After more than 30 years of giving my energy to the community through art, wellness, and service, I’ve learned that life’s greatest gift is simply being able to give — even when how you give changes.
From that moment, the JoyKit™ was born — a simple idea with a powerful purpose.
For every JoyKit™ you buy, you receive one sunflower print to keep and one to give away — a small act of kindness that helps joy travel farther.
We call it Share Art. Spread Joy.
Each JoyKit™ is a tangible reminder that beauty and hope grow stronger when they’re shared. Whether you give the second print to a friend, a teacher, or a stranger who needs a lift, you become part of a living network of light.
Funding Allocation
This project isn’t just about funding art — it’s about fueling connection. Your support helps us cover:
- Print Production & Fulfillment (25%) — Creating and delivering high-quality archival sunflower prints.
- Artist Recovery & Studio Work (60%) — Modest support so we can focus full-time on creating and fulfilling JoyKits™ during Steven’s continued recovery.
- Marketing, Crowdsourcing & Processing Fees (15%) — Sharing the story, maintaining transparency, and reaching more people who need light.

Our Stretch Goal: The JoyMap™ — A Living Map of Joy
Each JoyKit™ includes one sunflower print to keep and one to share. When someone gifts their extra JoyPrint, they’ll soon be able to scan a QR code and add a glowing sunflower “pin” to the JoyMap™ — a digital record of how joy travels from one person to another, across communities and countries.
This campaign’s stretch goal will fund the creative-tech team to bring that map to life — imagine Google Maps, but with 3-D sunflower pins marking real acts of kindness.

Artist Statement — Steven Csorba
Anyone can take a photograph of a flower, but for me, it’s never just about the image — it’s about being fully present in the garden. It’s about slowing down, feeling the energy, watching how the light shifts, and letting that changing rhythm guide what I see.
When I’m among the sunflowers, I’m not trying to capture something perfect; I’m simply observing what is. There’s a sacred kind of honesty in that moment — when a bloom begins to fade, when petals fall, and when seeds form to carry new life forward.
That’s where the real beauty lives for me — in the quiet cycle of renewal, where endings and beginnings share the same light.

About Steven
Steven Csorba
Artist. Cancer Survivor. Wellness Advocate. Community Builder. Joy-Maker.
Steven Csorba is an Edmonton-born artist, storyteller, and lifelong advocate for using creativity as a force for healing. Over the past three decades, he has raised more than $10 million for Alberta charities through his art, leadership, and relentless belief in the power of giving back.
Before illness reshaped his life, Steven was an award-winning brand strategist whose creative work for clients such as Apple, Industry Canada, and the Department of National Defence was recognized by the Smithsonian Institute for innovation. But his proudest work has always been helping others find light in difficult times.
A Journey Through Adversity
Steven’s first major battle came with head and neck cancer, which led to years of surgeries and radiation. During his recovery, he embraced Arts in Medicine Therapy while developing a prehabilitation approach to cancer care — one that used holistic wellness to prepare mind and body for treatment and recovery. His work in this area was later recognized in clinical wellness programs across Canada.
In the late summer of 2025, long after being declared cancer-free, Steven suffered a stroke caused by those same life-saving treatments. The event affected his speech, which will require an additional 6–8 months of voice rehabilitation to optimize neuroplasticity and work toward a full recovery. His ongoing journey also includes preparing for additional surgery to repair a radiation-damaged jaw — a reminder that healing is rarely a straight line.
Yet through every setback, Steven’s message remains the same: helping others makes you strong.
Turning Healing Into Purpose
Following his cancer recovery, Steven created PEPY, a school-based wellness initiative that has inspired thousands of students and teachers across Alberta. Through workshops, assemblies, and creative “Joy of Movement” sessions, he helped students discover their superpower gifts, develop wellness inventories, and learn to believe they are bigger than any obstacle life throws their way.
From high-energy school assemblies to hands-on resilience lessons, Steven’s approach blended laughter, learning, and inspiration — showing students that joy, confidence, and self-belief can be cultivated like muscles when practiced together.
After his stroke, Steven has temporarily stepped back from school delivery to focus on healing, pacing his energy, and allowing his brain to recover. But his mission continues — now through art.
The JoyKit™ — A New Way to Share Light
The JoyKit™ grew from Steven’s realization that joy is different from happiness — it’s deeper, more enduring, and born from gratitude. Each JoyKit includes one sunflower print to keep and one to give away — a symbol of connection that allows others to join in spreading kindness through art.
“My goal was never to beat cancer or overcome
the stroke,” Steven says.
“It was to turn those experiences into something
that helps others heal — to keep sharing joy in any way I can.”
A Legacy of Service
From leading iHuman’s All In! Edmonton capital campaign to creating art that raised $260,000 for the Buchanan Centre for Parkinson’s Disease, Steven’s life has been defined by giving. His philosophy of community — “the abundance we all have inside ourselves to help others” — continues to guide every brushstroke and every act of service.
Together with his wife Nick, Steven is now building the next chapter — turning art into action through the JoyMap™ and JoyKit™ Project — so that others, too, can experience the lasting strength that comes from sharing joy.
