Support the electoral campaign of Hunter Madsen for Port Moody City Council in the special By-Election on September 30, 2017. He needs public support for media outreach, having said no to big-developer money for his campaign against local over-building.

WHY I NEED YOUR SUPPORT.  I am running to serve as the next city councillor of Port Moody, in spectacular British Columbia, and my campaign needs funds to enable paid advertising, political flyer printing and distribution, and campaign signage, so that I can get my message out.  Here is why I'm running and my agenda for change, first in a video, and below that, in text.  If voters get a chance to hear my message, I'm convinced they'll support my candidacy.

PORT MOODY'S POLITICIANS NEED TO RESTORE BALANCE.  Over recent years I've led the fight to preserve quality of life on Port Moody's north shore by securing Bert Flinn Park for future generations and by containing further traffic growth on busy Ioco Road.  But the City's ongoing resistance has opened my eyes to the growing imbalance in how our politicians favor the ambitions of big developers over the protection of residents' quality of life - and not just on the north shore, but across Port Moody.

I believe our city can strike a wiser balance between moderate urban development and retaining the special qualities that residents came here to enjoy.

FOLLOWING IN THE STEPS OF RICK GLUMAC. Rick Glumac, who left this Council seat to represent Port Moody as our MLA in Victoria, always stood up for ways to sustain and improve livability here: I am running to make sure his seat is filled by someone who truly shares Rick's - and your - values.  Rick has enthusiastically endorsed my candidacy in this by-election, and now I ask for your vote as well.

A VOTE FOR ME SENDS A VITAL MESSAGE.  Voting for me sends a message to the Council, saying you prefer a course correction in the city's current path toward runaway over-building that threatens to clog our roadways, burden services and infrastructure, wear out our crowded parks, under-deliver on truly affordable housing, and turn our friendly, leafy, suburban community into another packed mini-Metrotown.

HOW TO PROTECT THE CITY'S QUALITY OF LIFE INSTEAD OF OVER-BUILDING.

  • I will work to see that Council sticks to the city's approved growth plan and stops exceeding it, and that developers pay their share.
  • Let's build a more human-scaled, mid-rise skyline, not a barricade of 26-story towers, and push harder to build more affordable rental units, not just pricey condos.
  • Let's do more to attract clean industry to Port Moody, and bring in more solar power across the city.
  • Let's make the most of PoMo's amazing parks, augmenting them as population grows and, yes, safeguarding Bert Flinn Park once and for all.

Let's restore the right balance in Port Moody governance, starting in 2017.  It all begins with you.

Thank you for supporting my campaign!

Sincerely,

      Hunter Madsen
