Abdel-Rahman’s story
In April of 2020, I heard the story of Abdel from UNHCR on Instagram.
This was the article -
"Abdel-Rahman and his family are Syrian refugees living in
Jordan. 3 year old Abdel-Rahman was born at just 22 weeks and as a
result his lungs didn't develop properly.
The solution is a double lung transplant, but he will have to
wait until he is 4 so that his body is strong enough to bear the
operation. Until then, he has to be on oxygen 24 hours a day.
Their father Baseem tries to find daily work as a painter and
decorator to cover the costs assciated with the electricity needed
to keep the oxygen generator running as well as additional
treatments and medication that Abdel-Rahman needs.
Since the COVID-19 lockdown and curfews in Jordan, Baseem hasn't
been able to cover their basic needs. "
I wrote a comment on instagram asking how I could help. I got a
response from a friend of the family that put me in contact with
them. I was skeptical at first, but after being sent a video of the
sweet boy saying my name, I knew this was real. I sent them money to
help and we have remained in contact ever since.
