A mothers plea! We have all dreamt of spending our holiday on a white sandy beach, soaking our toes in the crystal clear ocean salty waters while sipping a cuba libre but sadly holidays or long term stays can turn into hell in a foreign country and I would like to share my daughter's and our families situation.
My daughter Cindya has been jailed in the Dominican Republic
since May 28, 2019. Although not proven guilty and without a trial,
she was sentenced to 3 months preventive jail time for the simple
reason that she did not have her identification and passport with her
to provide to the Judge.
She was living a quiet and simple life and renting villas to
make a small living. Cindya was diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis in
2016 as well as having multiple brain tumors and decided to leave
Canada for somewhere the climate was more suited to her health
situation and her pain management. Although very sick, my daughter is
the strongest and the most determined person I know and I admire her
very much.
On April 18 she cancelled a group of people for a holiday
rental, due to the fact the guest turned up with more guests than the
booking allowed for. . The group were pretty upset having been refused
the rental , and having to find another place on Easter week , wich is
huge in the dominican republic .
The group then used their political influence to send her to jail stating untrue facts and being a stranger in a poor 3rd world country and not speaking the language that well, she was given no chance at all.
She has now lost her home, her work and everything she has worked hard for despite her illnesses and physical limitations.
The public prisons in the Dominican Republic are expensive to be
in. Nothing is free, not even food, and although our small family has
tried to support her in the best way we could, we are limited and out
of resources.
We are asking help for the cost of her daily meals, medications and personal items as well as help to pay for the translator needed in court and lawyer for the trial which is set for August 28.
The costs incurred by family/friends to date is large and unknown what's to come.
Consequences of this negative event is that Cindya also had to
have her Elderly dog named Mouchacha that has to be taken care of for
the time she is unjustly incarcerated. Mouchacha is 14 years old and
she has been sent to Canada this morning with the help of friends. We
need help to pay back the cost of veterinary and paper work as well as
plane ticket and all the expense surrounding her departure.
Every
expense will be published here and shared publicly as well as receipts
and updates.
Please considerate sharing my daughter’s story.
Any donation, however small, would help. Thank you to everyone.
