I'm creating this fundraiser on behalf of my best friend and her service dog, Ria Rose.💖🌹

Ria is a certified, 2½-year-old medical alert Service Dog who has been faithfully by my friend's side since she was just 10 weeks old. She is much more than a dog—she is a constant companion, a dedicated partner, and an indispensable part of my friend's daily life.

For all of her short life, however, Ria has been quietly living with a painful congenital condition that now requires surgery.

Ria was born with a recessed vulva, a condition that was unfortunately missed during her breeder's veterinary examination and only discovered after she came home. In fact, she arrived in her new home already suffering from an infection. It took months of veterinary care to clear that first hurdle, but the underlying anatomical problem remains.

The anatomy of her condition creates a constant, grueling cycle. Hair becomes trapped, the area cannot properly air out, and moisture and bacteria get locked beneath a heavy fold of skin. This has resulted in chronic, repeated infections and constant discomfort, even when she isn't actively fighting an acute flare-up.

While Ria continues to work, play, and serve with her usual enthusiasm, it is heartbreaking to know she deals with a baseline of daily pain. After consulting with a specialist, a vulvoplasty has been recommended as the only long-term solution. This surgery will correct the congenital deformity she was born with—completely relieving her chronic discomfort, improving her hygiene, and preventing future infections. While it changes the appearance of the area, this procedure is entirely medical, not cosmetic. It is about giving a wonderful, young working dog the normal, comfortable life she deserves so she can also better take care of her Handler.

💰️ The estimated cost of surgery, pre-operative testing, medications, and follow-up care is approximately $2,500 CAD. (Should any money be raised over this amount, it will go directly toward Ria's ongoing medical support.)

Because Ria’s handler relies on a fixed disability income, managing a major medical expense like this is an incredibly difficult hurdle. She has done absolutely everything right—investing in private insurance responsibly for emergencies, maintaining a meticulous daily grooming routine, and using preventative medications to keep ahead of the flare-ups. She has done everything in her power to protect her partner. Yet, because this condition is deemed pre-existing, she gets zero financial help from the insurance she faithfully pays for.

I'm hoping to raise enough money to cover Ria's surgery so she can finally get the relief she deserves.
