I’m Jim Mcleod, founder of Ginger Nuts of Horror. For 18 years, this website has been a lifeline for independent horror. Now it needs a lifeline of its own: $320 to pay next year’s hosting bill on Hosting.com .
I started GNoH as a joke while recovering from surgery. It became Europe’s largest independent horror review outlet. British Fantasy Award nominee. A home for brutal, honest reviews that treat indie authors the same as bestsellers.
Last year alone we:
-
Published 200+ reviews
-
Ran a folk horror series reaching 17 countries
-
Spotlighted 60+ small presses
-
Helped debut authors land agents
What the horror community says:
“A lifeline for horror creators.” – William J. Donahue
“The world is better with the Ginger Nuts in it.” – Alan Baxter
“A powerhouse of horror.” – Stuart Keane
Where the Money Goes
$320 exactly – one year of hosting on Hosting.com . Nothing else. I’ll post a public screenshot of the paid invoice.
Any extra goes to security plugins, a faster CDN, and automatic backups.
Why I’m Asking
I’ve paid thousands out of my own pocket to keep this site running. Migrations. Repairs. A hyperlink attack that wrecked our SEO. I never asked for help. But this $320 bill is the wall between GNoH and the digital graveyard.
I hate asking. I’d rather review terrible splatterpunk. But silence is the one horror this site was built to fight.
Small Rewards (Because I Can’t Offer Much)

Word of mouth kept GNoH alive for 18 years. One share could be the difference.
The Bottom Line
$320. That’s all. Less than a night out. Less than a few hardcovers. But right now, it might as well be a mountain.
If you’ve ever discovered a new favourite author on GNoH, argued with a review, or felt less alone because of this weird Scottish horror blog – please give what you can. A coffee. A fiver. Anything.
Let’s keep the lights on.
– Jim “The Don” Mcleod
