Antonia Teresa AMORE-BROCCOLI hasn't added a story.
Connie Everett Cunningham passed away at the age of 80, on May
10, 2018. Born in Watertown (Boston), Massachusetts on April 14,
1938 one of three children born to Pauline and Walter Everett.
Connie had fond memories of her younger sister, Cristie who
passed away in1948 from a brain tumor at age four and later her
younger brother Steve died (1963) from meningitis in his early
20's. This caused Connie grief that lasted a life time.
Connie graduated from Brimmer and May School in 1954, Chestnut
Hill, Massachusetts and received a Bachelor's degree from Western
College for Women in Oxford, Ohio in 1960. Living in San Francisco
during the 1960's Connie had her first relationship with a woman,
Mimi and frequented lesbian and gay bars in the city; namely
Pinocchio's. Coming out as a lesbian in the early 1960's was a
challenge. In 1963, Connie married Michael Cunningham and moved to
Mill Valley. The marriage endured four miscarriages and one son who
lived for one week, before they joyfully adopted Casey in 1972.
After their divorce in 1980, Connie and Casey moved to Santa Cruz
in 1987 because Casey loved the Ocean. Connie was known as the
"cool mom who towed surf boards on top her little Ford Fiesta
with Casey and his friends to Stinson beach and Santa Cruz. Connie
worked as a realtor for Century 21 Award in Santa Cruz for 20 years.
In 2000, Connie met the love of her life, Antonia Teresa
Broccoli and after a three year friendship they spent the next 10
years living and loving together.
Connie and Antonia felt blessed to finally have a loving,
easy companionship which afforded them years of wonderful
memories. From 2003-2013, Connie and Antonia lived in Soquel
together. Connie had been single for 23 years and Antonia too found
true love with Connie. When Connie finally came out as a lesbian in
2003, at the age of 65, she transformed from the inside out. Love
changed and freed her and she was very happy. Connie dressed more
relaxed and she was more comfortable with herself and others.
She eventually cut her beautiful curly hair, as she blossomed more
and more into her authentic self. Connie and Antonia traveled to
Cape Code nearly every year, the Caribbean Islands, Baja Mexico with
Blue Water Ventures, Spain, France, Italy, Turkey and Greece with
Olivia Travel and they loved sailing on the Wind Star. They visited
Antonia's maternal family farm and cousins in 2006 and later in
2010.
They traveled to many recovery conferences and visited Hawaii each year. They frequented the Michigan Women's music festival and and many women's concerts together. Connie and Antonia lived a peaceful and passionate companionship for many years. Connie's father, Wally came to live with them in 2005, while on Hospice, he died peacefully on Christmas night 2005.
On May 10, 20118 Connie's life was cut short from with COPD and congestive heart failure.
