Help Me Achieve My Dream: Master's in Law
Hello everyone,
My name is Carmel Absolon, and I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt plea for help. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Law from the University of Dayton, a journey that has been filled with both determination and significant financial challenges. I am hoping to raise $20,000 to cover my university fees and secure a brighter future for myself and my family.
My Journey So Far
I graduated from the University of Cape Town with an LLB in 2019. Despite my qualifications, the job market was tough. Opportunities in my home country dwindled as the government halted training new prosecutors. Faced with limited options, I made the bold decision to move to Japan to teach English.
The Challenge
Teaching in Japan has been an enriching experience, but it has come with its own set of challenges. As an English teacher, I don't earn much. Half of my salary goes towards bills, and the rest quickly gets consumed by living expenses and tuition fees. The recent drop in the value of the yen has only made things harder, as my university fees are paid in USD, further straining my finances.

I have been studying diligently for the past year, but my savings have run out, and I am struggling to make ends meet. I am passionate about law and believe that obtaining my Master’s degree will open up new opportunities and enable me to create a better life for myself and my family.

I started studying in August 2023. It was extremely hard but equally as rewarding. I went through each semester trying to navigate working and studying at the same time. It's December 2024 and I have completed my final exam for my program!
I graduate in May but I won't be able to check my results or even whether or not I am able to graduate until my debt is paid off. So let's keep pushing until we get to graduation!

Weird interest: I absolutely adore professional wrestling. I would rather watch a low budget wrestling show than most artists in concert.
Hobby: Before I was juggling work and school, I used to love playing keyboard and being on a stage. I can still be found in karaoke bars when I need a day off.
I also love jigsaw puzzles! I am on a quest to finish one puzzle of each Disney princess, or honorary princess.
