My name is Kristen McCary and I reside in Titus, AL with my husband and three wonderful children ages 2, 3, and 6. I am an Independent Consultant with Usborne Books and More and I have decided to host a book drive to bless the children who live at the Adullam House in Wetumpka, Alabama.
History
Pete and Angie Spackman, the founders of the Adullam House, moved from Great Britain to Alabama to minister in the prisons. They quickly realized the children of the incarcerated desperately needed help. These children were found to be living in apartment halls, in homes with older siblings or elderly grandparents with dementia, or they were babies born to moms who were imprisoned. Upon the request of the Mother, Pete and Angie took these children into their own home and raised them with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Their home quickly became overcrowded so they built a new home for the children on 18 acres of donated land known as the Adullam House. At any given time, around 30 children, ages Newborn to older teens, are cared for in this facility. These children are taught with a curriculum that boasts Christian values. They attend services every Wednesday and Sunday at Harden Street Church in Eclectic. The children receive lessons in horseback riding, soccer, music, and swimming (in the Adullam House pool) and on special occasions they get to go on vacations!
Cause
The Adullam House does NOT receive state or federal funding. Everything these children need is supplied through community support and generous donations. I am hosting this book drive to give these children the gift of literacy and learning! My goal is to raise at least $1500 which will provide each child at the Adullam House with a $50 book shopping spree! Usborne Books and More will match the donation amount by 50%!
