I'm Dep Kirkland, the original Chief Deputy DA in the "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" murder case. The publishing clique resists telling the true story behind the case, the best seller and the motion picture. It's time to publish LAWYER GAMES!

My book, which has taken two years to research and write, tells the true story behind an infamous Savannah murder case and, in the process, divulges the tricks of the defense lawyer trade that ultimately set a killer free.

Another book, a fact-fiction account of this case, became famous and set records for its time on the New York Times Bestseller List. Now the publishing fraternity wants no part in pulling the curtain back and destroying the popular narrative that a simple prosecution was a persecution by an overzealous District Attorney. It's the same narrative employed by defense lawyers worldwide when faced with bad facts and unlimited funds. From OJ Simpson to Phil Spector, it's the same tired tune.

Thank goodness there is self-publishing today. It's the literary version of the democratic, wide-open Internet. Information can't be choked off today as it was in the past. I have a terrific editor already at work on a final check of the manuscript, which is over 170,000 words, fully referenced and illustrated with diagrams and photographs, including original crime scene photographs never before published. It's time to print this book, with or without the blessing of the traditional NY publishing houses. The reader can decide where the truth lies, though there is no... reasonable doubt.

LAWYER GAMES is the TRUE story of the murder case that gave rise to the book, Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, and the Clint Eastwood film of the same name.

Unlike those part-fact, part-fiction tales, this is the truth—including facts never introduced in a courtroom or previously divulged to the public—told by the original Chief Assistant DA who was there, who was at the scene within an hour of the killing—while the body was still on the floor—who made the decision to arrest the defendant, who assembled the case and who tried the first of four murder trials, side by side with the District Attorney.

State of Georgia vs. James A. Williams was tried four times over eight-and-a-half years and involved intrigue reaching into the highest levels of state politics, involving one of the most famous trial lawyers in America, a former Governor, a former President of the State Bar Association (and breeder of the UGA mascot) and the Georgia Supreme Court itself.

LAWYER GAMES is not merely the story of an infamous murder case. It is the story of a killer gone free through lawyer obfuscation, subterfuge and manipulation of the criminal trial process. These are common tools of a certain species of defense lawyer. LAWYER GAMES demonstrates the connection by drawing parallels between State v. Williams and trials of other high-profile criminal defendants, including O.J. Simpson, Phil Spector, Charles Manson and Angelo Bruno (one of the two Hillside Stranglers).
