I am Luby and I'm a Bengali Canadian who was born and raised in Canada. During my most recent visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh I was struck by the poverty I could see visible in a large metropolis where wealth and abject poverty thrive side by side like conjoined twins. There are people with expensive cars, jewellery, clothes etc and then there are people who are homeless and lying on the street with no possessions.

Often these homeless people are the most vulnerable people of society. Often they are people who once provided for themselves and their families and now in their age of weakness, when their bodies have failed them they find themselves on the streets, sleeping on cold concrete, being biten by mosquitoes and begging for a taka or two for meager sustenance. This is the condition of the disadvantaged elderly of Bangladesh who have no one to feed them and no social assistance to help them. Even most non-profit organizations fail to see their plight and fail to help them eat a decent meal.

I and a group of other law students from the London College of Legal Studies have decided to recognise the need to feed the elderly in our communities and we can no longer see them suffer as they do while we eat extravagant meals everyday. For now, our aim is small, we simply wish to give them a decent and nutritious meal every friday since they often go hungry for days. We hope to reach as many homeless elderly individuals we can and as often as we can. These elderly have become victims of poverty and often starve to death before they leave this world and we believe we can make a small difference if we can provide even one decent meal before they depart this world forever.

Our facebook page "Feed the Elderly" has detailed records of all the meals purchased and handed out every week along with pictures and stories of the different people we are helping. If you have any questions or concerns please leave us a comment and we'll get back to you as soon as possible because we know that you care about the elderly and you want to feed them. May God bless you.
