Lynda Seelie hasn't added a story.
As some, or most, of you know, my father, John Seelie, went to Hawaii this past December for the 73rd anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This trip was made possible by a wonderful organization that a friend told me about by the name of The Greatest Generations Foundation. This trip took not only my father, but 11 other WWII/Pearl Harbor veterans/survivors back to Hawaii. My father told me, upon his return, that out of all the times that he's been to Hawaii, this was by far, his favorite. Now, that surprised me, because my mother used to go with him when she was alive. I never thought I'd hear him say he had the best time on a trip without her, but he did. Don't get me wrong, it would have been OUT OF THIS WORLD wonderful if my mom would have been on this trip, but I think you get what I mean. Anyway. this same organization, and it's founder Tim Davis, are getting ready to go on a 13 day trip to Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Guess what??? Yes, they are taking my dad on this trip too!!! Of course, Dad was very excited to hear about this as he has never been back to ANY of these places. In fact, he was so excited that he almost forgot he needed to get a passport (he has never had one before). I've never seen him do something so fast!!! He's already had it processed and it's in his hands (and has been for a while). The only thing that dropped his and my spirit is, again, his financial situation. Now, The Greatest Generations Foundation picks up the tab for these trips, and according to my dad, they don't skimp on a thing. It's first class all the way. But, dad said "after paying my bills to cover the month, I only have about $.79 in my checking account. I can't even buy a souvenir". Well, that just about broke my heart. So, I thought I would come on his Facebook page here and see if I can raise any amount for him to take with him. While he really doesn't need any, I know not many people would like to go on a 13 day trip with absolutely no spending money. So, that is what I'm asking. Can you spare $5 to give to this fundraiser? Obviously, I only have about 10 days to raise this money, so if you feel like you'd like to help, please do so ASAP. Thank you so much.
Lynda
P.S. I asked my dad about pictures from Hawaii. He hasn't had them put on a CD yet, but he was going to do that this week. As soon as he gets it to me, I will put them on this page. You CAN see some pictures on here of the "send off" he received when going to Hawaii. Check out the video. It's pretty cool.
Thank you!
