--------------------------------------------------THE CAUSE:----------------------------------------------
A new volcanic eruption commenced on Fogo, one of the Cape Verde
Islands, on November 23rd, 2014. This eruption continues to date, it
is considered to be the largest eruption by volume and in terms of
damage, on the archipelago for over 60 years.
Most of the damage
was caused by lava flows advancing into populated regions, this
resulted in numerous buildings, homes and roads being destroyed. In
total, three villages have been abandoned and thousands of residents
have had to be evacuated.
Sonny Varela, who has Cape Verdean root, has wanted to
contribute to the help being given to those affected by the volcano
eruptions. Bringing her roots and love of dance she has decided to
create a charity Kizomba event. Sonny sourced out a charity/means of
donation which lead to her encounter with Cristelle Mirto.
The money raised by the event will go to buy a container which
will transport goods to Cape Verde, in conjunction with Cristelle who
has set up her own event and donation link from Switzerland. The
amount needed to be raised in order for the shipment to occur is 3500
euros.
Cristelle has already raised € 1310 towards this.
A few years back Cristelle began falling in love with Cape
Verde, when visiting the country and having received the warmest of
welcome. She has since then had a special spot in her heart for the
Cape Verdean people. Lately she has travelled to Cape Verde lately to
help the youth and bring them school materials (see pics below), will
be going back to in April.
Cristelle works for a shipping company so, she is still
currently negotiating to try find a better price for the container.
Cristelle is working to ensure we can effectively ship out these much
needed gifts to those in need there in Cape Verde.

There will be an event, on Saturday 14th February called 'Kizomba 4 Cape Verde', to be hosted by Sonny Varela.
The event will have: workshops taught by accomplished and renounced teachers, shows and then a party.
