Hello, my name is Holland Marie Brooks and I am an upcoming 8th grader at Athens Middle School in Athens, Alabama. During my 7th grade year, I was on the A and A-B Honor Roll, selected Student of the Month in both Math and Science and received the Top Eagle Award in Math, my favorite subject. Through my Art class, I had several of my pieces on display at the One Athens Christmas Showcase. Soccer is my favorite sport and I enjoyed playing on the AMS Girls Soccer team. I also participated in the 4H River Kids Kayaking Club.
This year, I am going to try new things. I will be running on the Athens Golden Eagles Cross Country Team and I will also play Fall Club Soccer for Madison Blaze. For the first time, I will also join the AMS Choir. This school year will be an exciting year!
NYC - An AMS Tradition
Our eighth grade year highlight is the AMS capstone trip, a 5-day trip to experience The Big Apple as a class family. I am fundraising in order to participate. This trip is a time honored tradition and I look forward to upholding the tradition and experiencing the cultural opportunities of traveling to NYC with my classmates. This experience will last in our hearts and minds for years to come.
Highlights of the Trip
- Tour Midtown Manhattan, Central Park, Upper West Side, Harlem, Chinatown, Financial District, Battery Park
- 9/11 Memorial, One World Observatory, Museum of Natural History, Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, Lower East Side Tenement Museum
- Cathedral of St John the Divine, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity Church, Apollo Theater, Yankee Stadium, Rockefeller Center, Statue of Liberty,
- Cultural experiences include Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show, a dinner cruise, “School of Rock” on Broadway and a pro sporting event
Fundraising Efforts
I am raising funds toward my class trip to help offset cost. Fundraising is an amazing opportunity to learn the basics of money management and to learn the importance of planning and working to achieve my travel goal. The money raised will pay for my flight, hotel accommodations, dining and any other travel expenses.
