PLEASE HELP SVEN get the life saving treatment he needs. Sven is one of the most gentlest dogs you will ever meet, he is a complete gentleman, he follows Chris around like a lap dog, he is a big boy but oh so gentle. Chris owned Sven’s mum so Sven has lived with her since the day he took his first breaths in this world. Sven’s is named “smiley Jim” because he is always such a happy boy. Sven was taken to the out of hour’s emergency clinic on 22nd April at 5am suffering from breathing difficulties. The vet sent Sven home with some prokolin for an upset tummy saying that the tenderness in his abdomen was from a tummy upset. A couple of hours later Sven was back at the surgery because his breathing difficulties had worsened. It was decided to perform a chest x-ray about 7:30am Chris waited outside where she saw a veterinary nurse arrive. Chris heard nothing until surgery started at 9:30am and got concerned and went in to enquire how he was. The vet took her to a side room and told them with a very concerned look on her face Sven came out of the anaesthetic but gagged and they had to put him on oxygen. He had recovered from the anaesthetic but they couldn’t wake him. Chris went in to see him and he was laid out flat just taking in the oxygen. To see him there and be able to do nothing was heart-breaking. Chris began stroking and rubbing her boy willing him to come back to us for what seemed like forever not knowing whether our boy would come around or not. Chris cradled him her arms so she would be the first person he saw when he woke so he knew she was there and it was safe. After about an hour and a half he came back round and to say Chris’s relief was immense is a vast understatement. The xrays showed something called Bulae in his lung which were described to her to be much like bubble wrap and eventually it pops which is much like a mini explosion and this causes air to leak out of the lungs. The Bulae can seal over if left to heal and the lungs kept inflated and the patient given plenty of rest. Chris has since discovered that the fact that Sven was given gas as an anaesthetic (which really shouldn’t have been used with suspected breathing problems because this is how the anaesthetic is expelled from the body so it meant that the gas was leaking out from his lungs into his body that’s the reason he couldn’t wake up) there is a possibility the pressure from the gas caused the hole to become larger. The vet on call had been on call and working for 4 solid days over the bank holiday period and she admitted to Chris “mistakes can happen when you are so very tired”. It was decided to take Sven to a vets in North Wales where he was given oxygen and a chest drain to help expel the air in the hopes that the hole sealed as can happen and his lung reinflate but it’s important the that patient has complete rest to allow this to happen. He has had a couple of setbacks where the heating was left on in the kennel he was in and he started to pant which caused the healing bulae to open up again. Then his catheter came out had to be replaced and this caused more stress and panting which undid all that was done. Because of these ongoing problems Sven now needs an expensive CT scan and following surgery to help make him better. Chris & Les are under any illusion about the dangers involved in the surgery and also the risk of him never recovering but they went to see thier boy today, he was bright and he was cheery and he was eating so he is fighting. He also came back from playing with his sister and mummy at Rainbow Bridge to return to Chris because he knows she loves him so very, very much. He is fighting we think he deserves a chance to get better because he really doesn’t want to leave us and they want him home and healthy back with his family at home because we miss him so very much. Please if you can help we would much appreciate your kindness but if you can’t help financially then please spare a moment to pray for our precious boy.
