My name is Rose Kravchenko, and I never imagined I would be asking strangers to help save my mom’s life.
Every morning I wake up wondering if today will be the day I receive the phone call every daughter fears.
My mom is a disabled United States citizen who is currently overseas. She is wheelchair-bound, lives with partial paralysis, and suffers from multiple serious medical conditions that continue to worsen despite repeated hospitalizations and emergency medical care.
Recently, she suffered another devastating setback when she fell from her wheelchair and fractured the neck of her femur (hip fracture), making an already fragile situation even more dangerous and making travel without specialized medical assistance nearly impossible.
She is also battling painful pressure sores that are becoming increasingly difficult to heal because of her limited mobility and declining health. Every day that passes places her at greater risk for additional complications.
As her daughter, there is no greater heartbreak than knowing your mom needs you while you are thousands of miles apart, unable to hold her hand, advocate for her care, or simply tell her everything will be okay.
For weeks, I have done everything I know how to do. I have reached out to medical providers, elected officials, government agencies, and the United States Embassy, desperately searching for any path that would allow my mom to return home safely. Despite our best efforts, we have learned that there is no government-funded transportation available for her situation.
Because of her medical condition, she cannot safely travel on a standard commercial flight. She requires specialized medical escort services and medical transportation that are simply beyond what our family can afford.
Once she arrives in the United States, she will immediately need continued medical treatment, rehabilitation, specialized medical equipment, and a properly fitted wheelchair capable of safely supporting her current injuries and medical needs.
This fundraiser will help provide:
• Emergency medical transportation to the United States
• Medical escort services and specialized travel accommodations
• Ground medical transportation
• Specialized medical equipment, including an appropriate wheelchair
• Immediate medical treatment and rehabilitation after her arrival
I am not asking for luxury.
I am not asking for comfort.
I am simply asking for the chance to bring my mom home so she can receive the medical care she desperately needs while surrounded by the family who loves her.
Right now, she has three beautiful grandchildren waiting to hug their grandma again. Every day that passes is another day they wonder when they will be able to see her, laugh with her, and make new memories together.
