Animal care requires too much time, effort, and sacrifice if it isn't your passion. We are a very small group of animal welfare advocates/rescuers here in the Philippines and have been passionately rescuing strays, neglected, abused, and abandoned animals since 2013. Until we decided to build our private shelter and registered as a non-government organization- Woofgang Pack Philippines Inc last August 2022.
As time passes, we realize there are many animals in need and a limited number of ready and willing rescuers. Our rescued, fostered, and adopted dogs have been with us for years. Several were saved from euthanasia and other dog pounds, while the rest were strays and victims of neglect, cruelty, and abandonment. We work hard to ensure we provide these lovable animals with love, care, a home, and their needs. We seldom ask for support or donation, but these animals deserve a good home and a safe environment. However, running a dog shelter is no easy task, and we rely on our salaries and some donations from kind-hearted individuals to keep our doors open.
Through the years, what we spent for our fur babies came out of our pockets. The funds we receive ( if there are) are added to our overall budget to cover the costs of food, medical care, and supplies, for our furry residents. Over the last 10 years, we've been dedicated to giving these precious animals a second chance at life. While we work tirelessly and have jobs, we sometimes struggle to make ends meet in our mission to provide shelter, food, and medical care to these innocent beings.
We had our shelter reconstructed last year 2022 to make a better place for them. We dedicated our effort to improving the lives of animals in our community and those who were and are presently under our care. As they grow older, we want to give them the best life they deserve while still with us. Have a comfortable place to sleep, play, run and relax and just enjoy life.
Despite our best efforts, we've faced heartbreaking losses, especially in the last three years. We've witnessed the passing of so many of them, and our spirits are weary. Currently, we are trying our best to meet their urgent needs and are reaching out beyond our country for support since local assistance is scarce. We're doing this for our rescued dogs who have been through a tough time.
This year has brought its fair share of challenges, including several typhoons that tested our resilience. Nevertheless, we've managed to make improvements to the shelter. We embarked on a minimal construction and repairs. However, despite these efforts, we've come to realize that it's not enough.
Today marks our 3rd year, and we've been through numerous difficulties. The weather has taken its toll on our surroundings, making life tougher for our dedicated caretakers. The path leading to our shelter has taken a turn for the worst, and erosion is one of our major problems. Yet, despite all these obstacles, the love our caretakers have for our rescues remains unwavering. They've made numerous sacrifices because this shelter is not just a place; it's a home for our beloved dogs.
The biggest challenge we are dealing now with is the sudden need to move from our current residence. The owner has sold the property. As responsible pet owners, we have been struggling to find a new place that will accept our beloved dogs. Fortunately, we have found a new home that welcomes our pets with open arms. However, due to the unexpected nature of this situation, we were not financially prepared for such an expense. Our shelter is about to move and finding a new place that not only accommodates our rescues but also allows us to rent the property as a dog shelter is incredibly tough. Most places just won't accept pets, let alone the number of rescues we have in our care. With short notice and limited funds, we're feeling the pressure, and we're reaching out to friends of other animal organizations like you.
Then the other day 2 puppies in our care have been diagnosed with parvo, and the medical expenses have drained our funds completely. We lost them both. Despite our immediate efforts to seek veterinary care, they did not survive, leaving us heartbroken. We had hoped to move to our new home with our complete pack, but this unforeseen tragedy has shattered our plans.
The costs were exacerbated by the recent repairs and construction to a new location, depleting all the collated funds from our paychecks and a few savings left. Unfortunately, we had to halt the labor for setting up the new location due to the lack of funds to compensate our dedicated workers. Currently, we are anxiously awaiting the next paycheck to resume their compensation and trying our luck to find help.
Then a neighbor from a distance offered pork meat at a low cost, revealing that they had pigs that recently died from Porcine Parvovirus. It seems like there's an outbreak in one of the nearby piggeries, and it's confirmed that we need to move out ASAP. The construction at the new site isn't finished yet, adding to our worries. We're doing everything we can, to pull this through.
