Getting funding for further education in Africa is a nightmare.I am a lecturer at Technical University of Kenya.I started teaching with a Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering when the university was a National polytechnic.When the polytechnic was converted to a university the teaching staff was to trained further.I secured a place at Cranfield University,Uk to do M.Sc in  Thermal power Engineering.I got a VISA to go for my studies,My dreams were curtailed when i was denied the finances.I was even Denied a study leave.I later enrolled in to a Bachelor of Philosophy degree which was jointly run by Technical university of Kenya and Nairobi University.The course was meant for holders of Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering to bridge them to M.sc degree.My University was to pay 70% of the cost and the student who were members of the teaching staff would pay 30% of the cost.I successfully finished the course in 2013 wither Second class upper division(2.1).I started teaching the degree courses still at the same level i was before graduating.The financing was not honoured and our certificates are still held by my employer till we pay the 100% of the degree course amounting to Kenyan shillings 360000 equivalent to about B POUNDS 3000.
I applied for my Ph.D  and I was registered with Bolton university,UK,to do my research titled-Graphene based sensors for health monitoring of Aerospace Vehicles-under two wonderful and renowned researchers namely;Prof Jack Luo and Prof Siores.I went through my first year successfully making three reports on my findings which were duly accepted.I was to continue with my registration for the second year,but the university(Bolton)could not allow me into the second year beause i had not paid for my Year one.When my employer came to know of my efforts,I was asked to allow one of the professors at Technical University to be enjoined with those at BU as a co-supervisor as a condition for me being financed by TUK .We wrote to Bolton University and the readily accepted the arrangement.That was inbearly 2017 and since then i have been waiting for finances.I was not deterred and i continued with my research.
Now we are being told  that the rule is that no teaching without Ph.D but in reality we continue teaching without promotion.
I am 56 years but with enough vigour and drive to finish the Ph.D
