Hi friends! I have recently been accepted to an amazing artist residency in Taos, New Mexico, for the months of February, March, and April. The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation accepts painters, poets, sculptors, writers, playwrights, composers, photographers and filmmakers from around the world and I am one of the 11 chosen for their spring session of 2016. I have been granted a personal studio. This $2500 would be to supplement my savings and help with travel, food, supplies, and to maintain my life back in Oakland. Every sponsor, at no matter what amount, gets an original piece of art made by me! As many of you know, residencies, with their gift of time and location, have become integral to my artistic practice. My paintings and drawings develop directly from land that I love, and I found New Mexico especially inspiring when I attended another residency in Santa Fe in June of last year. The Helene Wurlitzer Foundation is in the mountain town of Taos; it is ringed by Desert Mountains, ancient pueblos, rocks and more rocks. Pretty much all I could ask for in a location! With the gift of this time I hope to take risks with fresh ideas, start new large scale drawings, and plan for future work that is inspired by the unique qualities of this special place.
